Portmeirion Birds of Britain 10-Inch Earthenware Dinner Plates, Set of 6
Product Review The Birds of Britain pattern dates back to 1974, but the ornithological designs which grace these plates are based on drawings by Edward Donovan from his 1794 book Natural History of British Birds. This set includes 6 dinner plates, each 10-inches in diameter and featuring a large image of a different bird at the center. The birds are shown in a natural setting and the plates are ringed with a unifying leaf motif at the rim. The birds represented, one per plate, are the gray phalarope, little egret, magpie, harlequin duck, wood duck, and common sandpiper: below each is their name written in English and Latin. Made of high-quality, hand-decorated earthenware, the plates are dishwasher and microwave safe and safe in convection ovens up to 340 degrees F. Portmeirion designs the plates for a lifetime of normal domestic use and replaces any faulty pieces or items that do not satisfy the customer. --Jeff Dalto Product Description Originally conceived in 1974, the illustrations for this range were taken from the book Natural History of British Birds by Edward Donovan, published in 1794. Forty Birds were featured in the collection, which was not fashionable in following trend but has helped to keep this beautiful pattern fresh and exciting. Each piece in this collection has assorted motifs.
